We've only been at Harlem Live for close to two weeks, but yet we have leaned and gained so much. Being here has taught alot of people a lot of different things. One of our first lesson's wasn't really taught, but something we learned on our own. A lot of first impressions was 'Oh goodness what is this place." The program is located in a basement-type and the space was limited. Then afterwards we were forced to humiliate ourselves by playing crazy-weird games. It was meant to break the ice, and that it did. Even though everyone looked and felt stupid making animal noises blindfolded(in a public park) or by doing a crazy dance move, it did help make talking to each other more easy. Just when we thought things couldn't get any crazier, they proved us wrong. The next two days we were forced to go on a extreme scavenger hunt thought New York City. Things were scattered out as close as around the corner to 6th avenue or in some cases Soho. Even though the scavenger hunt was tiring, hard, and a lot to do, a lot of people still came back the next day to finish there jobs. This was also something that made talking to each other even easier, and had us work as a team. The saying "You cant judge a book by its cover" really works well in this situation. By looks you would think this is the last place you would want to be, but by being active and really getting into the program, you wouldn't want to leave. Harlem Live gives you opportunities you wouldn't really find in school's or any other programs.
One of the special tasks that we have recently went on was a POS [Person on the street]. This is when we go outside and just randomly start talking to anybody about anything. Our task was to go to the Apple Store on 59th street and start talking to people who was around that area about the new Apple phone coming out soon. This experience was nerve-wrecking at first but then after we loosened up we really had a great time. There wasn't that many places, other than outside
